  • Webinar on “Status of Implementation of Energy Efficiency Initiatives“ by Dr. Tilak Siyambalapitiya was held on 24th April 2020. Dr. Tilak Siyambalapitiya who is an accredited energy auditor in Sri Lanka. He has worked on promoting and teaching energy efficiency since 1983, in fact he taught energy efficiency at numerous university courses and at energy management training programs.

Mr. Ranishka Wimalasena who is an Energy Specialist attached to Asian Development Bank (ADB) currently stationed in Fiji at the ADB South Pacific Regional Office covering energy sector work in six pacific island nations.

  • Seminar on "Renewable Energy – Opportunities, Key Challenges and Potential Solutions – 2019" was held on 19th March 2019, at CEB Auditorium, DGM-CP office complex, No: 04, Asgiriya Road, Kandy. Three invited speakers from Indian Institute of Technology(IIT) Gandhinagar, India delivered talks on "Renewable Energy in India: Grid Integration and Management" by Prof. Naran M. Pindoriya Associate Professor in Electrical Engineering at IIT Gandhinagar"Integrating solar photovoltaic (PV) in LV/MV distribution networks: challenges and potential solution using battery energy storage system (BESS)" by Dr Shivashankar Sukumar Post Doctoral Research Fellow at IITGandhinagar.“Grid Integration of Wind Energy and Battery Energy Storage System” Mr Rishabh Abhinav PhD student at IIT Gandhinagar.

2018 Activities

Technical

  • 7th Symposium of the Consortium for Rapid Smart Grid Impact (CRSGI) was held on 23rd and 24th April 2018 at the CEB Auditorium, BMICH, Colombo. Around 15 resource person from local and international universities and industries shared their knowledge. In both dates, around sixty (60) participated for the event. Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) provide the venue for free of charge and Lanka Electricity Company Private Limited (LECO) provided the financial sponsorship for the food and refreshments
  • Seminar on ‘Smart Grid’ was held on 26th April 2018 at the Seminar room of the Dept. of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, University of Peradeniya. The speakers of the event were Prof. K. Raghavan, University of Petrolum and Energy Studies (UPES), India, Prof. Dionizio Paschoreli, University of Sao Paulo, Brazil and Dr. Ajith H. Wijenayake, Imagen Energy, USA. Around thirty were participated for the event. IEEE PES SL chapter, IEEE CRSS and IEEE PES Peradeniya Student Chapter jointly organized the event. (Jointly organized with IEEE Central Region Sub-Section Sri Lanka)
  • Guest lecture on “Multi-junction III:V Concentrator Photovoltaics with integrated thermoelectric temperature control” by Dr. Tracy Sweet, Research Fellow, Cardiff University School of Engineering, UK. Event was held on 4th May 2018 at Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, University of Peradeniya, Peradeniya.
  • Guest Lecture on “Corrosive Sulphur Related Power Transformer Failures” by Mr. Sameera Samarasinghe who is a PhD student at University of Queensland, Australia. Event was held on 31st May 2018 at Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, University of Peradeniya, Peradeniya (Jointly organized with IEEE Central Region Sub-Section Sri Lanka)
