Annual General Meeting of IEEE Power and Energy Society of Sri Lanka Section was held on 18th February 2021 as an online event due to covid pandemic situation with about participation of more than 20 members.
Current chair Dr. Asanka Rodrigo started the meeting with formal proceedings. During the proceedings the Outstanding Engineer Award 2020 was awarded to Dr. Narendra De Silva (General Manager, Lanka Electric Company) and Outstanding Young Engineer Award 2020 was awarded to Mr. Chanaka Niroshan De Silva for their services in Electrical and Electronic Engineering industry.
The "Chair Elect" of tenure 2019/21 Dr. Sudheera Nawarathne assumed duties as Chair for the IEEE PES Sri Lanka Chaper for tenure 2021/23. The rest of the committee members were appointed and details are available in the Current Committee Section.
Guest Speech on "Power System Planning Studies"
In parallel with the proceedings of AGM 2021 a guest talk was held on the same day for the audience.
The session was titled "Power System Planning Studies" was presented by Dr. Darshana Muthumuni, Managing Director, Power Systems Technology Centre, Manitoba Hydro International Ltd.
During the session, contents such as Long Term generation/transmission planning process, System Stability, RMS type stability and detailed electromagnetic transient studies were presented to the audience. It was a fruitful session with active participation of audiance more than 50 participants.
